HOUSTON – The University of St. Thomas men's basketball program has added Jannick Christiansen as Assistant Coach. He brings international playing experience and a deep love of the game to the Celts.
Raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, Christiansen started his athletic life on the ice as a hockey player. He switched to basketball at age 13 and quickly became one of the top young talents in the Danish circuit. He played for Stevnsgade Basketball Klub (SBBK) and was selected to the Danish Youth National Team.
Christiansen went on to play professionally for both Solrød Basketball Club and SBBK. Committed to giving back to his community, he also co-founded a grassroots club in his hometown neighborhood of Østerbro. Financial challenges ended the project early, but his dedication to local basketball never faded.
A career-ending ankle injury at age 24 moved Christiansen from playing to mentoring. He was introduced to St. Thomas through his father, who serves as a volunteer assistant coach with the UST women's soccer team. That connection led him to Coach Medina and the men's basketball program, where he now brings his tactical knowledge, court vision, and energy to the Celts.
Whether he is developing players, building team culture, or sharing the game that shaped his life, Christiansen is committed to helping the next generation of athletes succeed.
