SAAC Mission Statement
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) represents the Division III student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation; identifying significant student-athlete issues; implementing national student-athlete based initiatives; encouraging community outreach; and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement in and understanding of Division III in general. In summary, the mission is “To enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image at the University of St. Thomas.”
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at the University of St. Thomas is composed of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience at the university. While the student-athlete experience at the University of St. Thomas has its own uniqueness, the SAAC will attempt to govern itself in accordance to the constitution and policies of both the national (NCAA) and conference (Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)) SAAC committees. While primary focus will be toward the University of St. Thomas student-athlete experience, attempts will be made to be in compliance with the larger aforementioned bodies.
The goals and functions of the UST SAAC will parallel those set forth by the NCAA:
- To promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes.
- To disseminate information and provide feedback to the Athletics Department.
- To generate a student-athlete voice.
- To build a sense of community within the athletics department.
- To organize community service efforts and promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.
