SUWANEE, Ga. — The University of St. Thomas softball team is set for another championship run as the 2026 SCAC Softball Tournament begins Friday, May 1 and continues through Sunday, May 3 in Abilene, Texas on the campus of McMurry University.
The Celts (29-8 overall, 27-3 SCAC) enter the weekend as the tournament's No. 2 seed after closing out the regular season with a split against Concordia (Texas). St. Thomas heads into postseason play with momentum and confidence, looking to build on its recent success after capturing its second conference tournament title in the last three years in 2025.
In last season's championship run, the Celts were dominant, going a perfect 3-0 while defeating Trinity and top-seeded Texas Lutheran twice over the course of the weekend. That championship experience now serves as a foundation as St. Thomas eyes another title.
Texas Lutheran (35-4 overall, 27-2 SCAC) once again holds the No. 1 seed, extending its streak to 12 consecutive conference tournaments atop the bracket. The Bulldogs enter ranked No. 5 nationally and riding a strong finish to the regular season.
Tournament play begins Friday with first-round matchups, as host McMurry (No. 4 seed) takes on Ozarks (No. 5 seed) at 11 a.m., followed by Concordia (No. 3 seed) facing Centenary (No. 6 seed) at 1:30 p.m. The Celts will await their opponent as they begin their pursuit of another SCAC championship.
Since the tournament's inception in 1999, St. Thomas has claimed two conference tournament titles (2023, 2025) and continues to establish itself as one of the league's premier programs. With a balanced roster and championship pedigree, the Celts are poised to make another deep postseason push.
