ABILENE, TX - The University of St. Thomas' softball team battled in a back-and-forth contest but came up short in a 6–4 loss to the University of the Ozarks. The Celts responded to early pressure and held the lead through the middle innings, but a late rally by Ozarks in the seventh inning proved to be the difference.
After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, St. Thomas answered immediately as Ana Zozaya delivered an RBI double to score Rebecca Archibald and tie the game at 1–1. The Celts carried that momentum into the second inning, where Maegan Anderson brought home Olivia Sanchez on a fielder's choice. Gigi Rivera followed with a sacrifice bunt RBI, allowing Viviana Vargas to score and give St. Thomas a 3–1 lead.
The Ozarks responded with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to even the score, but the Celts once again had an answer. Olivia Sanchez came through with an RBI single to left center, scoring Avery Pinz and putting St. Thomas back on top, 4–3.
Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings as the Celts maintained their slim advantage. However, in the top of the seventh inning the Ozarks capitalized on key opportunities, using an error and a two-run single to plate three runs and take a 6–4 lead. St. Thomas was unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh, as the comeback effort fell short.
