HOUSTON, TX - The University of St. Thomas' softball team split its games against Concordia University Texas, falling 3–1 before bouncing back in their second game with a 5–0 shutout victory. The Celts showed early momentum in Game 1 but were unable to overcome a mid-game surge, while responding in Game 2 with a strong late offensive push to take control and secure the win. The Celts are now slated at 29-8 overall, with 27-3 in conference.
Game 1: Concordia 3, UST 1
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the second inning when Kianah Johnson singled to shortstop, bringing home Viviana Vargas to give the Celts a 1–0 lead.
Concordia responded in the third inning, stringing together timely hits to plate three runs and take a 3–1 advantage.
The Celts continued to battle at the plate and created opportunities, but were unable to push across additional runs as Concordia's defense held firm.
St. Thomas kept the game within reach defensively but could not overcome the third-inning rally.
Game 2: UST 5, Concordia 0
After a scoreless start, St. Thomas opened the scoring in the fifth inning. Sophie Hassall delivered an RBI single to bring home Samantha Crumrin and give the Celts a 1–0 lead.
The Celts added to their advantage in the sixth inning with a dominant offensive display. Chloe Bennett doubled to left field to score Gigi Rivera, and Crumrin followed with a two-run double to bring home Bennett and Rebecca Archibald. Olivia Sanchez capped off the inning with an RBI double, driving in Crumrin and extending the lead to 5–0.
St. Thomas' pitching and defense held firm throughout the game, keeping Concordia off the scoreboard and securing the shutout victory.
