BELTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas women's tennis team continued its road swing Saturday against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, narrowly falling 4-3. The Celts now sit 0-2 and turn their focus toward conference play.
UST found success in doubles as Lucia Rodriguez and Mariel Herrera secured a 6-2 victory. However, UMHB claimed the remaining doubles matches to take the early point.
In singles competition, the Celts mounted a strong comeback effort. Lucia Rodriguez delivered a 7-5, 6-4 win, while Mariel Herrera battled back after dropping the first set to take her match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Nataly Velasco added another key point with a steady 6-4, 6-4 performance.
Ella Mullins competed in a tightly contested three-set thriller, falling 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-7 (10) in a heartbreaking tiebreaker. Adriana Iturralde dropped her match 3-6, 1-6 as the Celts' comeback effort came up just short.
