MARSHALL, TX – The University of St. Thomas women's tennis team opened the spring season on the road against East Texas Baptist University, falling 6-1 in nonconference action. The Celts move to 0-1 to begin the spring.
UST found success in doubles as the pairing of Lucia Rodriguez and Mariel Herrera defeated the Tiger duo 6-2 to secure a point for the Celts. ETBU claimed the remaining doubles matches to take the overall doubles advantage.
In singles competition, Marlie McMarthur delivered a strong performance for St. Thomas. She battled through a tight opening set, winning 7-6 (4), followed by a 6-1 second set, and sealed the match with a 10-7 tiebreaker victory.
Lucia Rodriguez fell 6-3, 6-1, while Ella Mullins dropped her match 6-0, 6-3. Mariel Herrera competed hard but came up short 6-4, 6-1. Adriana Iturralde pushed her opponent in a close contest before falling 6-4, 7-6 (3), and Hannah Snyder closed out the lineup falling her match with a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
