HOUSTON, Texas —The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team wrapped up its exhibition matchup at home on Friday afternoon, falling 78–44 to the University of Pennsylvania.The Celts remain at 2-1 overall awaiting their matchup tomorrow.
Penn set the tone early, opening the first quarter with strong perimeter shooting and forcing turnovers that allowed them to take a 20–8 lead after the opening frame. In the second quarter, St. Thomas continued to battle inside, but Penn's efficiency from three extended the gap as UST entered halftime trailing 39–16.
After the break, the Celts found more rhythm offensively, highlighted by aggressive drives from Macie Whitfield and steady playmaking from Amyia Bowie. UST put together several stops and converted at the free-throw line, but Penn maintained control heading into the fourth with a 58–27 advantage. Despite a stronger offensive push in the final quarter, the Celts were unable to chip away at the deficit as Penn closed out the 78–44 win.
The Celts were led by Macie Whitfield, who delivered a strong performance with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Amyia Bowie added 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Kameron Goodman and Branasia Brazelton contributed key defensive efforts throughout the game.
