HOUSTON, TX – University of St. Thomas senior Amyia Bowie has been named the SCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, February 15 through Sunday, February 22.
The Red Oak, Texas native anchored the Celts' defensive effort in a pivotal week, helping St. Thomas close out the regular season with three consecutive victories over McMurry, LeTourneau, and Centenary.
Bowie averaged 7.0 rebounds per game, including 4.7 on the defensive glass, while adding 3.0 steals and 0.7 blocks per contest. Her activity and leadership on the defensive end set the tone for the Celts, as UST held all three opponents below their season scoring averages in league play and limited them to just 35.6 percent shooting across the week.
Her impact on the defensive end played a crucial role in securing the three-win finish and earning conference weekly honors to cap the regular season.
