UST Softball Dominates Centenary

HOUSTON, TX - The University of St. Thomas's softball team earned a pair of impressive victories over Centenary College of Louisiana, rallying for an 8–7 comeback win before dominating in a 13–0 run-rule victory. After overcoming an early deficit with a late offensive surge and walk-off finish in Game 1, the Celts carried that momentum into Game 2, erupting early and pulling away with a decisive third-inning outburst.  With the pair of wins, the Celts improve to 27-7 overall and 24-2 in conference.

Game 1:  UST 8, Centenary 7

Centenary came out strong, scoring five runs across the first three innings to take a 5–0 lead. St. Thomas began to chip away in the fourth inning. Viviana Vargas reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Chloe Bennett, and Samantha Crumrin later scored to cut the deficit to 5–2.

The Celts continued their comeback in the sixth inning with a dominant offensive surge. Ciaira Gonzalez hit an RBI double to center field scoring Bennett, and Vargas followed with a two-run RBI single to tie the game at 5–5. Ana Zozaya then delivered the biggest hit of the inning, launching a two-run home run to give St. Thomas a 7–5 lead.

Centenary responded in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to even the game at 7–7 and set up a dramatic finish.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Celts answered. Samantha Crumrin stepped up and delivered a clutch RBI double to right field, bringing home Savana Henken and sealing the 8–7 walk-off victory for St. Thomas.

Game 2:  UST 13, Centenary 0

St. Thomas wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Chloe Bennett hit an RBI triple to right field scoring Rebecca Archibald, and Samantha Crumrin followed with an RBI double to bring Bennett home, giving the Celts a 2–0 lead.

The Celts broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning with an explosive offensive outburst. A passed ball allowed Ciaira Gonzalez to score, extending the lead, and Archibald added an RBI single to bring in Ana Zozaya. Savana Henken followed with an RBI single, and Bennett delivered a two-run double to continue the surge.

Crumrin added to the rally with a two-run RBI single, and Zozaya capped off a standout inning with a two-run RBI double. Additional runs came across on passed balls and a single from Maegan Anderson, as the Celts plated 11 runs in the inning to take a commanding 13–0 lead.

St. Thomas maintained control the rest of the way, shutting down Centenary offensively to secure the run-rule victory.
