HOUSTON, TX – University of St. Thomas junior Elyssa Rodarte has been named the SCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 23 through Sunday, March 29.
The Sugar Land, Texas native delivered a record-breaking performance at the Victor Lopez Classic, rewriting the program record book in two events. Rodarte opened the meet by shattering the school record in the 1500 meters, clocking a 4:53.96 to break the previous mark by more than five seconds while posting the second-fastest time in the SCAC this season.
She followed that performance with another historic run in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:19.26 to become the first Celt in program history to break the 2:20 barrier.
Rodarte's standout weekend highlights her continued rise among the conference's top distance runners and earns her well-deserved conference weekly honors.
