Celts Close Victor Lopez Classic with Records

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of St. Thomas track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice University, with another strong showing on Day Two, highlighted by a school record, multiple season-best performances, and continued progress across sprint and field events.

The Celts saw a breakthrough performance from Joshua Martinez in the 400-meter hurdles, as he set a new school record with a time of 55.37. Martinez placed fifth overall and now ranks 25th nationally, marking one of the top performances of the weekend for St. Thomas.

In the middle-distance events, Elyssa Rodarte continued her record-breaking weekend, this time in the 800 meters. Rodarte clocked a school-record time of 2:19.26, which currently ranks second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Juan Silva added a strong performance in the men's 800 meters, posting a season-best time of 1:59.64, while Diego Santillan followed with a personal-best mark of 2:00.60 to show depth for the Celts in the event.

On the track, Terrence Jackson led the way in the 400 meters with a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in 49.69. Adrian Thomas competed in the 100 meters, finishing ninth overall with a time of 11.14, while Quadetra Wilburn placed eighth in the women's 100 meters with a time of 12.22.

Cam Grimaldo added points in the hurdles, finishing eighth overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.34.

In relay action, the men's 4x100-meter team of Jason Crampton, Adrian Thomas, Cam Grimaldo, and Terrence Jackson turned in a season-best performance of 42.31, continuing to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.

In the field events, JaKarri Hall delivered one of the top marks in program history in the long jump. Hall placed sixth overall with a jump of 6.78 meters, which ranks as the third-best mark in school history.

With another day of strong performances against a competitive field, the Celts continue to show steady improvement and depth across events early in the outdoor campaign.

St. Thomas will return to action April 2–3 as the Celts travel to compete in the Trinity Invite hosted by Trinity University.
