BELTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas Women's Tennis team continued play at the Crusader Invitational on September 19, competing in both singles and doubles action.
In Line A singles, Lucia Rodriguez battled a tight opening match against Southwestern, winning 7-6(2), 3-6, 10-5 to advance. She later fell to East Texas Baptist 6-2, 6-3, and will compete for third place tomorrow.
On Line C, Adriana Iturralde earned a win over UMHB to move into the finals of the consolation bracket. She will play for the title on Saturday.
Line D saw Mariel Herrera drop her opening match against ETBU, but she responded with three straight victories in the consolation draw to claim her bracket's title.
On Line F, Nataly Velasco impressed with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over LeTourneau after defeating Texas Lutheran in the opening round. She will now play in the finals of her line. In the same draw, Aimee Tran opened with a 6-1, 6-7(3), 10-8 win against TLU but was edged in her second match.
Line G featured two Celts advancing side by side. Hannah Snyder defeated Schreiner, while Marlie McArthur topped Concordia, setting up an all-UST final between teammates.
In doubles play, Rodriguez and Herrera advanced to the finals in Line C with a strong victory over Texas Lutheran. In Line D, Iturralde and Tran continued their momentum from Friday, defeating TLU to also reach the finals. Snyder and Velasco, who advanced on day one, fell to Howard Payne and will play for third place tomorrow.
