Houston - The University of St. Thomas Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are set to kick off a new season this fall with the release of their 2025 schedule. With Head Coach Walt Yarrow entering his second year leading the team, the Celts aim to build on last season's momentum and make another strong push in the SCAC.
St. Thomas will kick off its 2025 season on August 30th at the Stormy Seas Invite, hosted by Southwestern University in George, TX. The Celts will return to Houston for back-to-back meets at the Rice Invitational on September 13th and Prairie View A&M on September 27th, giving the team a chance to compete in front of a home crowd. In October, the schedule heats up with the DBU Old Glory in Dallas on October 11, followed by another showdown in George at Southwestern University on October 18th. The postseason begins with the SCAC Conference Championship on November 1, hosted by UST. The season wraps up with the NCCA West Regional Championship on November 18th.
Running with the Celts
The Celts return a solid core from last year and welcome new faces ready to step up. With a mix of experience and newcomers, the team is focused and eager for another season.
The men's team will be led by Johnathon Castro, who had an outstanding freshman season in 2024. He placed 11th at the SCAC Championships to earn All-Conference honors. He has had a consistent performance for the 2024 season, including a best 8K of 25:59. Also returning is Junior Mason McFeeters, who ran 17:04 at the Rice Invitational and was the second-fastest Division III runner in the field. Senior Drew Cunningham is another name to watch, after recording a season-best 8K of 26:26 at the West Side Classic. The rest of the team includes dedicated runners who have shown strong progress and are ready to contribute to another competitive season.
On the Women's side, Alejandra Ramon headlines the upcoming season after setting two school records in 2024. She brings both speed and consistency to the top of the lineup. Joining her is Junior Elyssa Rodarte, whose leadership and dedication have made a strong impact on team culture. Alongside them is a strong group of returners and newcomers who add depth and energy to the roster as the Celts aim to make an impact in every race.
