HOUSTON – The University of St. Thomas Men's Soccer team is set to return to action for the 2025 season, led by second-year Head Coach Ernesto Ramirez. After falling just short in the SCAC Championship match last fall, the Celts enter the new season with determination and a clear goal—finish what they started. "As I enter my second season as head coach, I'm excited for what lies ahead," Ramirez said. "Over the past year, the team and I have grown together, building stronger relationships and a deeper understanding of our goals. This season, we aim to raise our standard of play and further refine our identity on the field."
Looking into the Season
The 2025 schedule features 20 total matches and three scrimmages, offering the Celts a strong mix of competition to prepare for conference play. The season begins on the road with matchups against former SCAC opponents Southwestern University and Trinity University.
The Celts return to Houston for their home opener on September 6 against Hardin-Simmons University at SaberCats Stadium. That match begins a three-game home stand, with additional contests against Mary Hardin-Baylor on September 11 and North American University on September 13.
SCAC play kicks off on the road with visits to Schreiner University and McMurry University on September 26 and 28. The Celts will then host their first conference home match on October 3 against the University of Dallas, followed by a matchup against Colorado College on October 5.
UST will hit the road again to take on Austin College and LeTourneau University, before returning to Houston for a weekend hosting Hendrix College and Ozarks on October 17 and 19. The final road match of the season is set for October 24 at Concordia Texas, followed by two home contests to close the regular season: Texas Lutheran on October 26, and Centenary College on November 1, which will also serve as Senior Night.
Ramirez also noted the benefits of this year's schedule: "Another advantage this year is a much-improved travel schedule. It gives us more opportunities to compete at home and in front of our supporters—something we don't take for granted. Your energy and belief make a difference, and we're determined to earn another NCAA tournament berth with your backing behind us."
Leadership & Impact Players
The Celts return a strong group of upperclassmen, led by team captain Elijah "Jeth" Flores, along with experienced leaders Hamilton Estrada and Jovany Garcia. Their leadership and commitment continue to set the standard for the program.
UST also brings back a dynamic sophomore trio—Hani Ahmadia, Aldo Hernandez, and Leonardo Herrera—who all earned All-SCAC Freshman Team honors in 2024. Their early success and continued development will be key to the Celts' 2025 push. "While we've said goodbye to impactful seniors—true history-makers in the SCAC—we're confident in the leadership of our returning players," Ramirez said. "They are ready to embrace greater responsibility both on and off the pitch." The team's foundation is also strengthened by a promising incoming class. "I'm thrilled about our incoming group," Ramirez added. "They bring a wealth of experience, character, and talent to the program."
