MSOC: Celts Defeat Cowboys in Tight 1-0 Match

Houston, TX– UST Men's Soccer host an at home match against Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, TX. With both teams keeping the audience in anticipation for a goal, the game delivered plenty of excitement. The Celts rose to the occasion and secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Cowboys.

As the Celts kicked off the first half, they immediately applied pressure, setting the tone for the game. Emmanuel Rodriguez took the first shot of the game, sparking energy that rippled through the team. UST continued to press forward, with three more shots within the first 10 minutes, including two from Jovany Garcia and one from Jeth Flores. Despite coming close to goal opportunities in trying to score the Celts entered halftime in a 0-0 result.

With tensions high coming into the second half, both UST and HSU looked to find the right rhythm to break the tie. The Cowboys attempted to swing the momentum with substitutions, but the Celts' defense remained firm. A close shot from HSU nearly put them ahead, but UST goalkeeper Jorge Gonzalez came up with a crucial save, igniting his team. Using that energy, the Celts broke through in the 61st minute when #7 Tony Castro, returning from an injury, scored the game's lone goal off an assist from freshman #29 Nathan Udojie. From there, UST stood strong and finished the match with a well-earned 1-0 victory.
