JETH FLORES OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior defender on the men's soccer team from Missouri City, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 1.
The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Jeth is committed not only to excellence in athletics but also to growth, leadership, and service. A Psychology major with a minor in Communications, Jeth aspires to become a sports psychologist and mental performance coach- displaying how his impact in athletics is shaped by his passion for understanding others and helping athletes thrive.
On campus, he leads Bible studies with teammates and friends, and during his spare time volunteers with Rising Stars, a program designed to support first-generation students at UST.
For Jeth, giving back to the community is important and has taught him so much throughout his career as a student athlete. "Growing up my father always told me God gives you a gift and what you do with that gift is your gift back to God… and for me, soccer has been a gift, alongside leadership and helping those around me as much as I can," he reflected.
His time as a Celt has strengthened his leadership, resiliency, and discipline both on and off the field. He sees these qualities reflected in his academics and group work, recognizing that the teamwork required on the field also demands leadership off the field as well, throughout the UST community to grow stronger together. "All these characteristics I've learned on the field I can apply anywhere in my life—it's helped me be a scholar-athlete myself," he shared.
Jeth's dedication to serving others, living out his values, and leading with purpose makes him a standout role model not just for receiving recognition for SCAC Character & Community, but also within the UST community as a whole.
