ABILENE, TX- The University of St. Thomas continued their weekend at the McMurry Invitational, returning to the pool for Day 2 to wrap up competition. The Celts came in looking more in sync and ready to race, delivering another day of strong swims and standout performances.
The women set the tone early with dominant relay efforts, winning both events and posting impressive splits throughout. Leading the way was
Valentina Garcia, who had a breakout day. She captured wins in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Fly, in addition to contributing on both winning relays. Joining her in the winner's circle was
Kelsy Elgar, who claimed the 100 Backstroke and also played key roles on both victorious relays.
Ava Verret added another highlight with a confident and commanding swim in the 500 Freestyle, marking one of her most confident performances of the season.
On the men's side, Ben Tercero stepped up in the 100 Fly, an event outside his usual lineup, still raced to a memorable win. In the 50 Freestyle, sprinters
Charles Wallace and
Austin Brister went 1-2, pushing the Celts forward in the point standings. The momentum continued in the 200 Freestyle, where
Oscar Mayorga and
Luke Newman delivered a strong team-driven race, finishing first and third.
UST showed remarkable depth by sweeping the top three spots in both the men's 400 IM and 100 Fly, closing out the meet with dominant performances across multiple events.
At the end of the weekend, the Celts finished with strong results heading into mid-season:
