HOUSTON, TX – St. Thomas swim team wrapped up Day 1 competition at the Rice Tri-Meet, facing off against a strong Division I opponents including Rice, UTRGV, Loyola, and Arkansas. Competing at the Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center, the Celts embraced the challenge and showcased their competitive edge against top-tier talent.
Freshman Tanner McKay continued to impress with strong relay legs and a standout performance in the 100 breaststroke, proving himself as a fierce competitor. Ben Tercero followed with another solid outing, showing his energy and love for racing as he continues to develop throughout the season.
On the distance side, Oscar Mayorga delivered another strong swim in the 500 freestyle, continuing his consistent improvement with each race. Levi Del Angel also had a standout meet, shining in both the 200 and 400 IM. His dedication and confidence in his training were evident as he powered through each event.
For the women, Valentina Garcia stepped up in the 500 freestyle — an event she doesn't swim often — and impressed with her determination and pace. Kelsy Elgar also stood out with her focus and drive, showing noticeable growth from last season. Her renewed mindset and attention to detail have helped her approach each race with confidence and purpose.
