UST student-athletes top 3.0 GPA

HOUSTON – University of St. Thomas student-athletes finished the Spring 2019 semester with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0.

Celts student-athletes turned in a cumulative grade-point average of 3.022 by the end of the semester. A total of 71 athletes recorded a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

"Academic success is like athletic success: it does not happen by accident, it takes time, hard work, and commitment," UST Athletic Director Todd Smith said. "With more than 50 percent of our student-athletes achieving a 3.0 or higher GPA, it tells me we are recruiting student-athletes who care about their education and are willing to work hard in the classroom."

Four teams had 10 players or more with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.0. The Celts men's soccer team had 15 players top a 3.0 grade-point average.

The men's basketball team and women's soccer team each had 12 athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better. The volleyball team had 11 such athletes, and had the top two GPAs in the entire athletic department.
