HOUSTON – University of St. Thomas Head Volleyball Coach Keanne Burt has announced the addition of former Celt standout DaVette McCall to the coaching staff for the 2026 season.
A University of St. Thomas volleyball alumna, McCall returns to her alma mater after a successful coaching career at both the high school and club levels. She played under Coach Burt during her collegiate career and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from UST in 2016 before completing her Master's Degree in Sports Administration at Arkansas State University.
McCall rejoined the program during the spring of 2026 and will work primarily with the Celts' setters and attackers. She will oversee the team's offensive systems while also managing scouting responsibilities and setter development.
"We're excited to welcome DaVette back home to UST," Burt said. "She understands the culture of our program, has a tremendous volleyball mind, and brings a wealth of coaching experience that will make an immediate impact on our student-athletes."
McCall began her coaching career in 2012 at the club level before transitioning to the high school ranks. She became head coach at Splendora High School in 2018, leading the Wildcats to a school-record season in 2019 that included the most wins in program history and the deepest playoff run, advancing to the regional semifinals. She later coached at Dayton High School, where she tripled the team's win total in one season, before helping Klein Oak High School return to the playoffs after a four-year postseason drought.
Throughout her coaching career, McCall has earned numerous honors, including Courier Coach of the Year, District Coach of the Year, and the AVCA 30 Under 30 Award. She has also coached multiple student-athletes who have earned AVCA Phenom recognition, JVA Watch List honors, All-District, All-Area, All-Region, and All-Academic accolades while helping many continue their volleyball careers at the collegiate level.
As a player, McCall was a four-year collegiate captain and setter, spending two seasons at Wharton County Junior College before transferring to St. Thomas. During her collegiate career, she earned RRAC Setter of the Year honors, the Johnnie Frankie Award, and multiple All-Conference and All-Academic selections.
McCall begins her first official season on the Celts' coaching staff in 2026 as the program looks to build on its recent success and continue competing among the top teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
