HOUSTON, TX - The University of St. Thomas's softball team relied on timely hitting and a strong defensive effort to secure a 5–0 victory over Centenary College of Louisiana. The Celts broke through in the middle innings and maintained control to complete the shutout win. With the win, their overall record improves to 27-7 slating 25-2 in conference.
After a scoreless start, St. Thomas found its rhythm in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gigi Rivera opened the scoring with an RBI single to right field, bringing home Avery Pinz. Savana Henken followed with a two-run RBI double to left field, driving in Rivera and Maegan Anderson to extend the lead to 3–0.
The Celts added to their advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anderson hit a sacrifice RBI ground out to bring home Ciaira Gonzalez, and Olivia Sanchez reached on an error that allowed Viviana Vargas to score, pushing the lead to 5–0.
St. Thomas's pitching and defense took over from there, keeping Centenary off the scoreboard and preserving the shutout victory.
