The Celts Split Double Header

SHREVEPORT, LA – The St. Thomas baseball team split a pair of tightly contested games against Centenary (La.), falling 7–6 in extra innings before responding with a 5–3 victory. With the results, the Celts move to 14-20 overall on the season, and 12-14 in conference play.  UST showed resilience in a hard-fought opener and bounced back with a strong all-around performance in game two.

Game 1: Centenary 7, UST 6

St. Thomas struck first in the second inning as Aryan Chopra singled up the middle to drive in a run, giving the Celts a 1–0 lead. In the third, Gage Kimble added to the advantage with a solo home run to make it 2–0.

Centenary responded in the bottom of the third, using a two-RBI triple and a sacrifice fly to take a 3–2 lead. The Celts answered in the fourth when Rey Izaguirre delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 3–3.

The Gents regained the lead in the fifth on an unearned run, holding a 4–3 edge into the late innings. St. Thomas continued to battle and found the equalizer in the ninth as Justin Ogle launched a solo home run to even the score at 4–4, sending the game into extra innings.

In the 12th, the Celts took control as Zach Cline scored on a wild pitch before Jon Torres added an RBI single to extend the lead to 6–4. Centenary answered in the bottom half with two unearned runs to tie the game once again.

In the 13th inning, Centenary secured the win with a walk-off solo home run, handing St. Thomas the 7–6 defeat.

Game 2: UST 5, Centenary 3 

St. Thomas wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning as Chris Johnson singled through the right side to drive in Justin Ogle and Gage Kimble, giving the Celts a 2–0 lead.

Centenary responded in the second with a two-RBI triple to even the score at 2–2, but St. Thomas regained control in the fifth inning. Ogle delivered an RBI double to bring home Tyler Mills, and Sam Lampson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Kimble, pushing the Celts back in front 4–2.

The Celts added an important insurance run in the ninth when Kimble launched a solo home run to extend the lead to 5–2.

Centenary managed a run in the bottom of the ninth, but St. Thomas held on to secure the 5–3 victory.
