SHREVEPORT, La. – The St. Thomas baseball team built an early lead and battled through late pressure before securing a 6–5 extra-inning victory over Centenary (La.), improving to 15-20 overall on the season and 13-14 in conference. The Celts leaned on timely hitting and resilience to finish off the win in a tightly contested matchup.
St. Thomas came out strong in the first inning as Chris Johnson singled to drive in Gage Kimble, followed by an RBI single from Sam Lampson to score Justin Ogle, giving the Celts a 2–0 lead.
After Centenary got on the board in the second inning, St. Thomas responded in the third inning. Lampson delivered a big two run RBI double to bring home Johnson and Ogle, extending the advantage to 4–1.
The Celts added another run in the seventh when Lampson continued his strong day with an RBI single to score Tyler Mills, pushing the lead to 5–1.
Centenary chipped away late, scoring once in the seventh inning before rallying for three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5–5.
St. Thomas regrouped in extra innings and found the decisive run in the 11th. Johnson launched a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Rey Izaguirre to score and give the Celts a 6–5 lead.
The pitching and defense held firm in the bottom of the 11th inning, sealing the extra-inning victory for St. Thomas.
