Irving, TX – The University of St. Thomas' softball team continued its strong play with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Dallas. The Celts earned a 5–0 shutout victory in Game 1 and a 9–1 win in Game 2. With the pair of victories, the Celts improved their overall record to 12-3 and 10-2 in conference.
Game 1: UST 5, UD 0
After a scoreless start, St. Thomas broke through in the third inning. Samantha Crumrin singled to bring home Rebecca Archibald while Savana Henken advanced to third, giving the Celts a 1–0 lead.
The Celts added to their advantage in the sixth inning with a powerful offensive surge. Sophie Hassall launched a solo home run to left field to double the lead. Later in the inning, Henken singled and advanced to second base on a fielding error in left field, allowing Kianah Johnson to score and extend the lead to 3–0.
St. Thomas capped off the inning when Chloe Bennett delivered a two-run home run, scoring Henken and pushing the lead to 5–0.
The Celts held Dallas scoreless the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory.
Game 2: UST 9, UD1
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the second inning when Olivia Sanchez doubled to left field, bringing home Avery Pinz while Ciaira Gonzalez advanced to third base. Shortly after, Kianah Johnson grounded out to third base, allowing Gonzalez to score and extend the Celts' lead to 2–0.
The Celts continued to build momentum in the third inning. Chloe Bennett singled to shortstop to drive in Rebecca Archibald, and Ana Zozaya added a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Bennett, pushing the lead to 4–0.
Dallas responded in the bottom of the third with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 4–1, but St. Thomas quickly answered in the fourth inning. Savana Henken doubled to right-center field to bring home Archibald, and Bennett followed with an RBI single to score Henken and increase the lead to 6–1.
St. Thomas added runs late in the game. In the seventh inning, Samantha Crumrin doubled to drive in Henken, and Gonzalez delivered a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home both Crumrin and Bennett, sealing the 9–1 victory.
