Celts Roll Past Austin College with Victory

HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas' softball team delivered an impressive offensive performance at home, defeating Austin College 12–1. After allowing an early run, the Celts responded quickly and used a powerful offensive surge to take control of the game.  With the win, the Celts have a 13-3 record overall and are 11-2 in conference.

Austin College opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to take a 1–0 lead. St. Thomas answered immediately in the second inning when Olivia Sanchez doubled to left field to drive in Ciaira Gonzalez and tie the game. Shortly after, Kianah Johnson hit an RBI single to the pitcher scoring Viviana Vargas and giving the Celts their first lead of the game.

The Celts continued to build momentum in the bottom of the second inning as Rebecca Archibald delivered a two-run single, bringing home Johnson and Sanchez to extend the advantage to 4–1.

St. Thomas added another run in the third inning when Vargas hit a RBI double to left field to score Gonzalez, pushing the lead to 5–1.

The Celts then broke the game open in the fourth inning with a dominant offensive effort. Archibald started the rally with an RBI single to score Johnson, Savana Henken followed with a RBI single bringing home Gigi Rivera. Chloe Bennett added a two-run single to extend the lead before Vargas delivered a two-run double that scored Samantha Crumrin and Bennett.

Maegan Anderson capped off the inning with a two-run double to left field, bringing Vargas home and sealing the 12–1 victory for the Celts.

Up Next

The Celts will continue SCAC play on Saturday, March 14, hosting Austin College at WUSA for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM, with Game 2 set to follow at 2PM.
