Celts Sweep Series Against The University of Dallas
HOUSTON, Texas – St. Thomas' baseball team delivered a dominant weekend at Reckling Park, defeating Dallas 10–0 before completing the series sweep with a 12–2 victory. With the pair of wins, the Celts improved their record to be 7-10 on the season.
Game 1:Â UST 10, UD 0
St. Thomas wasted no time taking control of the game in the first inning. Gage Kimble doubled to right field to drive in Rey Izaguirre for the opening run before Justin Ogle followed with a two-run RBI single to left field, scoring Jace Christian and Kimble to give the Celts an early 3–0 lead.
The Celts continued to build momentum in the third inning. Ryan Ratajczak grounded out to bring home Kimble before Ogle added another RBI groundout to score Jace Christian. Moments later, Aryan Chopra singled to center field to drive in Zach Cline and extend St. Thomas' advantage to 6–0.
St. Thomas added to the lead in the fourth inning when Ogle came through again with a two- run RBI single to center field, scoring Ratajczak and Kimble to push the lead to 7–0.
The Celts added insurance runs late in the game. Jace Christian scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning before Chopra delivered another RBI single to center field to bring home Ratajczak, sealing the 10–0 shutout victory.
Justin Ogle led St. Thomas' offense with multiple hits and RBIs, while the Celts' bullpen kept Dallas off of the scoreboard.
Game 2: UST 12, UD 2
St. Thomas set the tone early with an explosive first inning, plating five runs to take control of the game. Ryan Ratajczak was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run before Justin Ogle followed with an RBI single to right field to score Tyler Mills. Zach Cline then drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead, and Aryan Chopra reached on a fielder's choice which allowed another run to score following a throwing error. Eduardo Tamez capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field, giving the Celts a 5–0 advantage.
The Celts added four more runs in the second inning, continuing to apply pressure at the plate. Gage Kimble scored on a wild pitch before Chopra and Tamez each drew bases-loaded walks to bring in runs. Rey Izaguirre was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, pushing St. Thomas' lead to 9–0.
St. Thomas added to its advantage in the fifth inning when Kimble launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Tyler Mills and extending the lead to 11–0.
The Celts continued to add points to the scoreboard in the sixth inning as Brady Duque reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Miguel Acosta to score and make it 12–0.
Dallas managed two runs in the seventh inning, but the early offensive surge by St. Thomas proved more than enough to secure the 12–2 victory.
