CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – St. Thomas' baseball team split a pair of games against Ozarks on Friday, falling 4–0 in the opener before bouncing back with a 3–1 victory in game two. With the results, the Celts moved to 9-18 overall on the season and 8-12 in conference on the season, showing resilience with a strong response in the second contest.
Game 1: Ozarks 4, UST 0
After a scoreless start, Ozarks broke through in the third inning with a pair of extra-base hits. A two run RBI double opened the scoring before another two-run double extended the lead for the Eagles making the score 4–0.
St. Thomas looked to respond but was unable to bounce back as the Ozarks pitching kept the Celts off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
Despite the setback, the UST pitchers limited further damage after the third inning, keeping the deficit within reach, but the early runs proved to be the difference.
Game 2: UST 3, 1
St. Thomas broke through in the fourth inning when Gabe Garner launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Chris Johnson and giving the Celts a 2–0 lead.
The Celts added to their advantage in the fifth inning as Joseph Sanchez delivered a solo home run to extend the lead to 3–0.
Ozarks managed to get on the board in the eighth inning on an RBI fielder's choice, but St. Thomas' pitchers limited further damage and maintained control of the game.
The Celts' defense and pitching combined to hold Ozarks to just one run, securing the 3–1 victory and evening the series.
