Celts Come Up Short To Start Series

HUNSTVILLE, TX – St. Thomas' baseball team dropped a 14–5 game to Schreiner on Friday afternoon, moving to 8–14 overall on the season and 7-9 in conference. The Celts built an early lead but were unable to hold off a series of big innings from the Mountaineers.

St. Thomas struck first in the first inning when Ryan Ratajczak hit an RBI single to left field to drive in Gage Kimble, giving the Celts a 1–0 lead.

After Schreiner tied the game in the second inning, the Celts quickly responded. Zach Cline launched a solo home run to put St. Thomas back in front 2–1.

The back-and-forth continued in the third inning. Schreiner tied the score once again before St. Thomas answered with two runs. Ratajczak delivered an RBI double to right center scoring Justin Ogle, and Aryan Chopra reached on an error that allowed Ratajczak to cross the plate, giving the Celts a 4–2 advantage.

Schreiner began to shift momentum in the middle innings, tying the game in the fourth before taking the lead with a two run RBI double to gain the lead, 5–4.

The Mountaineers broke the game open in the sixth inning, stringing together multiple runs and taking advantage of wild pitches to extend their lead. Schreiner added another big inning in the seventh, pushing the advantage to 14–4.

St. Thomas added one final run in the seventh inning when Ratajczak hit a solo home run, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as the Celts fell 14–5.
