ABILENE, TX – The University of St. Thomas Men's basketball team continued its dominant SCAC run on Sunday afternoon, earning their 82–66 road victory over McMurry at Kimbrell Arena. The win lifts the Celts to 20–1 overall with a perfect 12–0 in conference play.
UST began their match with an efficient offense and relentless pace. Corey Thompson sparked the opening stretch by attacking the rim and converting at the free-throw line, while Reyce Allen finished strong inside to help the Celts build an early lead.
The Celts used strong ball movement and fast-break opportunities to stretch the lead. A strong drive and finish by Jaden Ross, followed by back-to-back free throws from Thompson, capped a decisive run that sent UST into halftime with a commanding 46–28 advantage.
Starting the second half, McMurry showed fight coming out of the break, knocking down perimeter shots to cut into the lead, but the Celts responded with composure. Thompson continued to control the tempo, scoring through contact and finding teammates when the defense collapsed. Rodgers and Ross delivered key contributions off the bench, combining for hustle plays and second-chance points that kept McMurry from gaining momentum.
Despite going cold from beyond the arc in the second half, UST dominated the paint and lived at the free-throw line. Allen added another strong finish inside, while Nicholas Buffalo and Brennan Webb provided energy on both ends. The Celts matched McMurry's push and closed the game with disciplined defense and steady execution to secure the 82–66 win.
The Celts controlled the interior with 50 points in the paint and turned defense into offense with 25 fast-break points, continuing their balanced and efficient style of play.
Thompson led all scorers with 20 points, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Allen added 10 points in limited minutes, while Rodgers chipped in 10 points off the bench. Ross finished with nine points and seven rebounds, highlighting a strong all-around effort as UST totaled 39 bench points.
