Box Score KERRVILLE, TX – The University of St. Thomas Men's basketball team stayed perfect in conference play Friday evening, leading from start to finish in a 73–59 SCAC road victory over Schreiner at Stephens Family Arena. With the win, the Celts improved to 19–1 overall and 11–0 in conference action.
St. Thomas came out with energy in the first half setting the tone early behind strong interior play and disciplined defense. Corey Thompson opened the scoring with an aggressive take to the basket, while Charles Gitonga quickly asserted himself on the glass with multiple offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points. Angel Johnson attacked the lane consistently, drawing fouls and converting at the line as UST steadily built its lead.
Defensively, UST limited Schreiner to tough perimeter looks. A late basket from Thompson capped a strong opening period, sending the Celts into halftime with a 35–23 lead.
Schreiner looked to respond in the second half, but St. Thomas answered each push with poise and determination. Johnson scored on back-to-back possessions—one on a strong drive and another at the free-throw line—to halt early momentum.
Thompson sealed the game late with confident ball-handling and finishes in traffic, as UST maintained control throughout the half. The Celts matched Schreiner's scoring after the break and closed out the contest with steady execution to secure the 73–59 win.
The Celts never trailed in the game, using physical play, rebounding, and efficiency at the free-throw line to earn another key conference victory.
Thompson and Johnson led St. Thomas with 16 points apiece, while Allen added 13 points. Gitonga delivered a dominant effort inside, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
