BELTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas men's tennis team remained on the road Saturday, facing University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in nonconference action. The Celts fell 6-1 and move to 0-2 to begin the spring season.
In doubles competition, St. Thomas battled but was unable to secure a point as UMHB claimed all three matches to take the early advantage.
In singles play, Raja Pandya earned the lone victory for the Celts in a hard-fought three-set battle. After taking the opening set 7-5, dropping the second 5-7, Pandya regrouped to close out the match 6-4.
Sawyer White fell 2-6, 5-7, while Ricardo Moolchan competed in one of the tightest matches of the day. Moolchan won the first set 7-6 (4), narrowly dropped the second 6-7 (3), and fell 6-2 in the deciding set. Pooya Tork was defeated 6-3, 6-3, and Wilson Salazar dropped his match 6-1, 6-4. Gavin Simpson pushed his opponent in a competitive contest, falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 in a deciding tiebreaker.
