ABILENE, Texas – UST baseball team dropped a tight 2-1 decision to McMurry on Friday in Abilene. With the loss, the Celts move to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
McMurry capitalized early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning after drawing bases-loaded walks to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Celts responded in the second inning behind timely hitting. Jace Christian sparked the momentum, and Augie Anderson delivered the big swing of the frame, ripping a double to right-center field to bring Christian home and cut the deficit to 2-1.
St. Thomas continued to battle throughout the contest, keeping the War Hawks within reach, but were unable to push across the equalizer. The pitching staff settled in after the first inning, limiting further damage and giving the offense opportunities late, though the comeback effort fell just short.
