Celts Split Doubleheader at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, TX– The University of St. Thomas softball team continued conference play on the road against Texas Lutheran University, closing out the weekend series with a doubleheader. The Celts captured a dramatic 14-13 win in Game 1 before falling 9-0 in Game 2, ultimately splitting the final day of competition.

Game 1: UST 14, TLU 13 (7 innings)

St. Thomas wasted no time kick-starting its offense in the opening inning. Chloe Bennett singled to center field to score Rebecca Archibald for the first run of the game. Samantha Crumrin followed with a double to left center, bringing in Savana Henken to extend the lead. Viviana Vargas then delivered a key hit to left center, driving in two more runs as the Celts jumped ahead 4-0 early.

After momentum shifted in the middle innings, the Celts responded in the second. Bennett doubled to right center to score Archibald, and Crumrin followed with an RBI single to even the game at 6-6.

Trailing later in the contest, St. Thomas mounted an impressive comeback. In the fourth inning, Henken executed a bunt that allowed Gigi Rivera to score. The fifth inning provided a pivotal moment, as the Celts executed quality at-bats. Maegan Anderson drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Archibald followed with an RBI groundout, and Henken added an RBI bunt single. Crumrin capped off the rally with another RBI single, tying the game at 11-11.

The offense stayed hot in the sixth. Archibald singled to right field to score Vargas, and Henken delivered once again with a clutch hit that brought in two runs, pushing the Celts ahead 14-11.

Texas Lutheran made threats late, but St. Thomas held on to secure the 14-13 victory in a back-and-forth battle that showcased the team's resilience and offensive depth.

Game 2: UST 0, TLU 9 (5 innings)

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Celts were unable to generate the same offensive rhythm. Despite competitive efforts at the plate and in the field, St. Thomas fell 9-0 in five innings to conclude the series.
