HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas Men's basketball team continued its dominant conference season Friday evening with a 75–64 victory over LeTourneau University at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center. The win improves the Celts to 23–1 overall and a perfect 15–0 in SCAC play.
St. Thomas set the pace as Corey Thompson opened the scoring in the first half with an aggressive drive to the basket, and Angel Johnson followed with a transition finish to help the Celts establish an early lead. Reyce Allen and Charles Gitonga controlled the paint, combining for key rebounds and second-chance opportunities as UST built momentum.
Midway through the half, Garret Rodgers provided a spark off the bench with consecutive baskets, while Thompson knocked down a three-pointer to stretch the advantage. Johnson added another strong finish in transition, and Gitonga dominated the boards to limit LeTourneau's opportunities. The Celts carried the momentum into halftime with a 38–30 lead.
The Celts maintained control in the second half with balanced scoring and disciplined defense. Thompson continued to lead the offense with timely baskets and strong decision-making, while Nathan Kongolo contributed with perimeter scoring and key defensive plays.
Rodgers remained effective off the bench, scoring inside and providing energy on both ends. Gitonga continued his strong performance on the glass, finishing with a game-high 13 rebounds and helping UST generate second-chance points. Allen added physical play in the paint, and Danny Canul knocked down key free throws to keep the lead secure.
LeTourneau made several pushes late in the game, but St. Thomas answered each run with composed execution. Defensive stops and controlled possessions down the stretch allowed the Celts to close out the 75–64 victory.
Thompson led the Celts with 15 points and three assists. Johnson added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Kongolo and Rodgers each finished with 10 points. Gitonga recorded 13 rebounds and seven points, anchoring the Celts on the glass.
