HOUSTON, Texas – UST baseball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader to Texas Lutheran on Saturday, falling 15-7 in game one and 7-4 in game two. With the losses, the Celts move to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in conference
Game 1: TLU 15, UST 7
After Texas Lutheran struck first in the second inning, the Celts answered with a strong offensive frame of their own. Jace Christian ignited the rally with an RBI triple that brought home Gage Kimble. Brady Duque followed with an RBI single to even the score, and Zach Cline added another RBI knock to give St. Thomas a 3-2 advantage.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third, but Christian responded in a big way. The junior launched a two-run home run in the third inning to tie the game at 5-5, then delivered again in the fourth with another two-run blast to put the Celts ahead 7-5. Christian finished the opener with a dominant performance at the plate, accounting for five RBI in the contest.
Texas Lutheran surged back in the sixth inning, tying the game at 7-7 before taking the lead later in the frame. The Bulldogs continued to add insurance runs down the stretch, pulling away in the final innings to secure the 15-7 win.
Game 2: TLU 7, UST 4
In game two, the Bulldogs jumped ahead in the first inning, but the Celts quickly responded. Jace Christian reached on an error that allowed Tyler Mills to score, evening the contest at 1-1.
Texas Lutheran built its lead through the middle innings, pushing the score to 6-1 after four frames. St. Thomas began to chip away in the sixth when Augie Anderson delivered a two-run home run, plating Gage Kimble and cutting the deficit to 6-3.
The Bulldogs added another run in the seventh, but the Celts continued to compete late. Tyler Mills launched a solo home run in the eighth to bring St. Thomas within three at 7-4. The rally attempt came up short, however, as Texas Lutheran completed the doubleheader sweep.
