Celts Stay Unbeaten in SCAC Play

HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas Men's basketball team extended its unbeaten conference run on Sunday afternoon, overcoming Concordia University Texas for an 84–76 victory at the JAAC. The win pushes the Celts to 22–1 overall as they defended their 14–0 record in SCAC play.

UST came out with energy on both ends in the first half as Corey Thompson set the tone early, attacking the basket and drawing contact. Reyce Allen controlled the paint with physical finishes and strong work on the boards, while Charles Gitonga was efficient inside, converting nearly every touch. Angel Johnson and Nathan Kongolo helped move the ball and keep the offense flowing as the Celts built momentum. Despite Concordia answering with timely perimeter shots, St. Thomas closed the half strong and took a narrow 32–29 lead into halftime.

The pace picked up after halftime, with both teams trading runs in a back-and-forth stretch. Thompson took over offensively, knocking down a key three-pointer and repeatedly getting to the free-throw line during a decisive run. Allen delivered multiple highlight plays in the paint, including a putback and a strong finish through traffic, while Kongolo added a timely three and several defensive stops. Gitonga continued to be a steady presence inside, and Johnson facilitated the offense as UST gradually pulled away. Down the stretch, the Celts executed from the line and made key defensive plays to seal the 84–76 conference win.

Thompson led all scorers with 33 points and added seven assists. Allen posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Gitonga scored 12 points and eight boards. Johnson finished with 11 points and seven assists, and Kongolo added nine points, six assists, and three blocks in a well-rounded performance.
