HUNTSVILLE, TX-- St. Thomas baseball team opened conference play in dominant fashion Friday night, shutting out Hendrix 4–0 at Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville. The victory marked the Celts' home opener and improved UST to 2–2 overall and 1–0 in SCAC action.
In a tightly contested matchup through the first six innings, both teams battled in a scoreless duel before the Celts broke through late.
St. Thomas found its spark in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Tyler Mills worked a disciplined at-bat and drew an RBI walk, bringing home the game's first run and giving UST a 1–0 lead. The patient approach at the plate shifted momentum firmly in favor of the Celts.
UST continued to apply pressure in the eighth inning. Rey Izaguirre lined a single to right field to score a run and double the advantage. Moments later, Jace Christian delivered a clutch triple to center field, driving in Izaguirre and energizing the home crowd. Eduardo Tamez capped off the scoring surge by reaching on an infield error that allowed another run to cross the plate, extending the lead to 4–0.
The Celts' pitching and defense handled the rest, keeping Hendrix off the scoreboard and sealing the shutout victory to open conference play.

St. Thomas will return to Don Sanders Stadium tomorrow to complete the three-game series against Hendrix. The Celts will look to build on Thursday's momentum as they continue SCAC competition.
