HOUSTON, TX-- St. Thomas men's basketball team delivered a dominant performance against Schreiner on Friday night, earning an 89–59 victory to improve to 15–1 overall and remain unbeaten 7-0 in conference.
The opening half featured competitive, back-and-forth action as both teams exchanged baskets early. A fast-break layup by Corey Thompson gave the Celts a 13–7 edge, but the Mountaineers quickly responded to tie the game at 17. Reyce Allen answered with a layup in the paint that sparked a 10–0 run for UST, pushing the lead to 29–19. Schreiner worked to cut into the deficit, but the Celts maintained control heading into halftime with a 38–30.
UST came out of the break with strong energy and took full control of the game. A 7–0 run to open the second half, sparking the mometum need with a dunk from Charles Gitonga off an assist by Thompson, extended the lead to 58–39. Thompson followed with a jumper, while fast-break layups from Tamarcaus Butler and Brennan Webb continued to stretch the margin. The Celts controlled the pace down the stretch, with multiple players contributing as UST pulled away for the 89–59 win.
Corey Thompson led all scorers with 24 points while adding 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Reyce Allen finished with 10 points and five rebounds, and Nathan Kongolo chipped in nine points and three rebounds to round out the Celts' top contributors.
