MARSHALL,TX-- St. Thomas women's soccer team fought hard in a back-and-forth contest at Cornish Field, earning a 2-2 tie against Belhaven College. With the result, the Celts move to 0-1-2 on the season.
The first half saw UST build early pressure. Vanessa Romero forced a save in the 7th minute, followed by shots from Sydney Ferguson and Abigail Davila that kept the opposing keeper busy. Despite the Celts' chances, Belhaven struck first midway through the half to take a 1-0 lead. The Celts continued to push forward with efforts from Ferguson and Amy Romero before halftime, but trailed heading into the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the Celts wasted no time leveling the score. In the 49th minute, Vanessa Romero found the back of the net off an assist from Alicia Chi, knotting the match at 1-1. Romero nearly doubled her tally minutes later, narrowly missing wide. Belhaven would regain the lead in the 74th minute, but UST showed their resilience.
Just six minutes later, Amy Romero delivered the equalizer, slotting home a goal in the 81st minute off a setup from Emma Cerda. Bre Medina and several fresh legs off the bench continued to push late, but neither side could break the deadlock as the match closed at 2-2.
