WSOC: A Tough Battle Against ETBU Tigers

Marshall, TX – University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer traveled to Cornish Field to take on East Texas Baptist University, in a tough battle on the road. The Celts fought hard but fell short 1-0 to ETBU.

The match began with an early surprise as the Tigers scored within the 9th minute of the game, forcing UST to quickly adjust and plan an attack to score. Determined to respond, the Celts applied pressure and worked through the several substitutions made by ETBU to try and spark momentum, but it resulted in a 1-0 advantage into the rest of the half.

The second half brought a stronger push from the Celts as they went neck and neck to pounce back on the Tigers. Freshmen- Sydney Ferguson, Amy Romero, and Asanah Gordon all tested the ETBU defense with shot attempts, while goalkeeper Kylie Soich stood tall at the other end, recording four saves in the half — one being a stop on the game's final shot. Despite the Celts' efforts, the Tigers held on to secure the 1-0 result.

Match Notes: Coming off their impressive impact against nationally ranked Pacific Lutheran, the Celts look to build on that momentum and take it into the second match of their weekend road trip. The determination drives UST WSOC as they look to return to Houston with a victory.
