HOUSTON, TX – St. Thomas hosted the Mississippi University for Women Owls in home match at SaberCats Stadium. Adding to their record, the Celts secured a clean 4-0 victory, improving their overall record to 3-1-2 so far in the season.
The Celts came into the game with confidence and power, pouncing on the Owls just minutes after kickoff. Off to a heightened start, UST scored three goals in the span of three minutes. Freshman
Sydney Ferguson opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with an assist from
Fernanda Alvarado. Just three minutes later, Ferguson struck again—this time unassisted in the 5th minute. With the Owls struggling to defend themselves,
Ashlee Stoltje added a third goal, utilizing a well-placed pass from
Emma Cerda. The team carried that dominance and control into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the Celts refused to slow down, as they continue to press forward. Freshman
Alicia Chi closed off the scoring with a solo goal that was out of reach for the Owls' keeper, sealing the game with a 4-0 win.
With the
Celts earning their second shutout of the season, soaring to new heights, they now set their sights on another victory before heading into the upcoming conference matches.
