Celts Power Past Concordia in Four Sets

AUSTIN, TX – The University of St. Thomas volleyball team opened SCAC play on the road with a 3-1 victory over Concordia, winning by set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, and 25-18. The win moves the Celts to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.

The opening set went point-for-point, with UST relying on steady swings from Ariana Willis and Jazilyn Davis to keep pace. Carly Lange anchored the defense with several key digs that kept long rallies alive, while Jada Stallworth spread the ball around to fuel the attack. Down the stretch, Willis connected on a crucial kill from the outside, and Davis followed with a block that gave the Celts the edge. UST closed it out 25-23 to grab the early lead.

Concordia responded in the second set, but the Celts still found bright spots. Alexis Bodunrin fired two big kills to swing momentum early, and Stallworth delivered a service ace to tie the score midway through. Lange's back-row presence continued to steady the defense. The Celts managed to overtake the momemtum and take the set 25-23.

Concordia responded in the third set, using serving pressure and a late scoring run to pull away 25-17. Despite kills from Lange and Bodunrin Alexis, the Celts struggled to find consistency as the Tornados forced a fourth set.

UST quickly regrouped in the fourth, Lange delivered an early ace and UST continued to attack aggressively at the net. Haydari, Willis, kept the offense balanced, while Davis and Maxwell gave the Celts needed points in the middle. With Medina steady at the service line, UST pulled away and secured the match 25-18 to start conference play with a win.

UST's offense was led by Alexis Bodunrin and Ariana Willis, who each recorded 11 kills, while Jazilyn Davis added 9. Mia Medina, Carly Lange, and Noor Haydari contributed service aces to keep the pressure on Concordia. At the net, Haydari finished with 3 blocks, Tasmine Maxwell had 2, and Davis added 2 more. Jada Stallworth led the team with 15 assists, followed closely by Medina with 14 and Lange with 8. On defense, Lange anchored the back row with 30 digs, while Medina and Bodunrin chipped in 14 and 13, respectively.
