MARSHALL, Texas – The University of St. Thomas softball team stayed alive in the NCAA Division III Regional with a 5-2 comeback win over Belhaven on Friday afternoon.
Belhaven took an early lead with a run in the third and added another in the fifth to go up 2-0. But the Celts responded with a massive bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to seize control.
The rally started with a bases-loaded walk by Jaelyn Simmons that brought in Gabby Davila to make it 2-1. Samantha Crumrin followed with a clutch two-RBI single to center, putting the Celts in front 3-2. Zoe Acosta added an RBI single to right, and Izabella Hernandez capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring home the fifth run.
The Celt defense and pitching shut things down from there, holding Belhaven scoreless the rest of the way.
