AUSTIN –The University of St. Thomas baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Concordia (TX), falling 10-0 in game one and 14-4 in game two. With the losses, the Celts move to 19-17 overall and 17-12 in SCAC play.
Game 1 CON 10, UST 0
The Tornadoes jumped out early and never looked back, putting up runs in each of the first four innings while holding the Celts scoreless. Concordia took a 2-0 lead in the first and extended it to 5-0 by the end of the third. A three-run seventh inning sealed the win for the home side.
St. Thomas was held to just three hits in the opener, and the Tornadoes capitalized on defensive miscues to plate multiple unearned runs.
Game 2 CON 14, UST 4
After falling behind early, the Celts rallied in the fifth inning. Tyler Mills got things started by reaching base and later scoring on an infield RBI single from Alex Trinh. Dillon McKee followed up with a big swing, sending a two-run homer over the left field fence to make it a 4-3 ballgame.
Jaxson Torres would add one more run for UST in the sixth, crossing home plate after a clean RBI single up the middle from Gavin Mays.
Despite the strong efforts at the plate, Concordia pulled away with a big fifth inning and held off the Celts the rest of the way.
