HOUSTON – The University of St. Thomas Baseball team hosted nationally-ranked No. 9 Trinity for a Friday doubleheader at Husky Field. In a pair of high-scoring contests, the Celts showed offensive firepower but ultimately dropped both games by scores of 11-6 and 21-12.
Game 1 – Trinity 11, UST 6
The Celts struck early in the first when Alex Trinh drove in Rey Izaguirre to put UST on the board. After Trinity answered in the middle innings, Dylan Lamb tied things up with a triple in the sixth.
Trinity put up four runs in the seventh to take control, but UST fought back in the eighth with a double from Dillon McKee followed by a two-run homer from Gabe Garner. Trinity added insurance runs in the ninth, and while Trinh drove in one more for UST, the Tigers held on for the 11-6 win.
Game 2 – Trinity 21, UST 12
The second game featured a rollercoaster of momentum shifts. Down 4-1 early, Tyler Mills blasted a grand slam to give the Celts a 5-4 lead. UST kept things rolling to go up 8-4 by the end of the third inning.
Trinity slowly chipped away, capitalizing on errors and wild pitches to tie and then take the lead in the sixth and seventh innings. The Celts kept battling, with Mills and Torres picking up RBIs late in the game, but Trinity pulled away with a massive ninth inning to secure the win.
