WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team built on yesterday's win, to secure a 61–50 victory over Whitworth this morning to improve to 2–1.
St. Thomas opened strong, highlighted by a three from Laura Jones,to get the game going.While both teams matched each other point for point, UST maintained the edge to finish the quarter.In the second quarter, Jaydia Morris and Nora Aigberadion sparked the offense inside, helping UST build a 32–22 halftime lead.
After the break, the Celts continued to command the pace as Amyia Bowie connected from deep and Branasia Brazelton securing key rebounds to carry the Celts to a 50–41 advantage into the fourth. With the teams trading points closely throughout, St. Thomas pulled away at the end as Bowie sank crucial free throws to secure a 61–50 win.
The Celts were led by Amyia Bowie, who scored 14 points with 6 rebounds and 6-8 on the free throws. Nora Aigberadion added 12 points and 6 rebounds, while Laura Jones contributed 13 points and 2-5 from the free-throw line to assist the Celts in their victory.
