HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas volleyball team wrapped up Day 3 of the SCAC Crossover with an impressive sweep over Austin College, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-22). With the victory, the Celts improve to 15-2 and 5-1 in conference.
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle early on as both teams traded points. Back-to-back kills from Alexis Bodunrin and Brooke Barnes tied the set at 11-11, giving UST a spark of momentum. A powerful finish from Ariana Willis fueled a scoring run to push the lead to 18-14. Jazilyn Davis kept the pressure on with consecutive kills to extend the lead to 22-14, and the Celts closed out the set with confidence.
In the second set, UST came out firing and never looked back. The Celts jumped ahead 11-5 and maintained control behind a balanced attack and strong defense. They continued to pile on points, stretching the lead to 19-10 before securing the set 25-11 to go up 2-0 in the match.
The third set was the tightest of the three, with both teams battling back and forth. The score sat tied at 9-9 before Austin College found a brief spark to go up 13-11. The Celts quickly responded with key kills from Davis and Bodunrin to retake the lead at 20-16. From there, St. Thomas maintained their edge and sealed the match with a 25-22 victory to complete the sweep.
The Celts saw strong performances across the board. Bodunrin led the offense with 17 kills, while Davis followed with 12 and Tasmine Maxwell added 6. Davis and Jada Stallworth each delivered 3 service aces, and Bodunrin added one of her own. Maxwell and Bodunrin also contributed 2 blocks apiece, while Noor Haydari added another. Mia Medina dished out 18 assists and Stallworth added 17 to guide the offense. Defensively, Carly Lange anchored the back row with 20 digs, followed by Bodunrin with 8 and Victoria Garcia with 7.
