UST Delivers a Slow Burn Victory

HOUSTON, TX – The University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer team defended their home turf in their first conference match at SaberCats Stadium, defeating the University of Dallas Crusaders 2-0. With the win, the Celts extended their streak to two straight victories, improving their overall record to 5-1-3 and 2-0-1 in SCAC play.

The Crusaders kicked off the match with possession and even tried to make a shot attempt, but the Celts quickly responded with aggressive pressure on offense. UST took chance after chance midway through the first half, piling up shots while limiting Dallas' opportunities. Despite their efforts, the score remained locked 0-0 at halftime, setting the tone for a highly anticipated second half.

After the break, UST settled into a rhythm and continued to push forward in search of a breakthrough. Their persistence paid off toward the end, as the Celts began to control the tempo. In the 83rd minute, Vanessa Romero capitalized on the team's momentum, earning a goal with an assist from Emma Cerda. The Crusaders made one final push to make a comeback, but goalkeeper Kylie Soich made a crucial save to preserve the lead. Just minutes later, the Celts sealed the victory in the 88th minute when Ashlee Stoltje scored, as she was assisted by Sydney Ferguson to close out the match. UST secured a steady 2-0 home win.
