Celts Clash with the Roos 1-1

SHERMAN, TX-  The University of St. Thomas women's soccer team traveled to Sherman, TX, to face the Austin College Roos at the Pierce Complex for their fifth conference match-up of the season. The Celts showed their hard work and determination as they battled through a physical match, defending their strong start to conference play. The game ended in a 1–1 draw, adding to UST's overall record of 5–1–4 and a conference record of 2–0–2.

From the opening whistle, both teams made it clear this would be a highly competitive match. Early saves by goalkeeper Kylie Soich kept the Roos off the board, while the Celts pressed forward with attacking efforts from Vanessa Romero, Amy Romero, and Alicia Chi that kept the Austin defense under pressure. Despite several close opportunities made by the Celts, they were unable to find the net in the first half. Austin College however, took initiative of one of their few chances, scoring late in the half at the 41st minute to take a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Celts came out of the break determined to shift the momentum. Their persistence paid off, as they increased the pressure on the Roos' defense, controlling possession and creating key scoring opportunities. A series of shots by Emma Cerda and Amy Romero tested Austin's goalkeeper, as Asanah Gordon also managed to test the Roos with an on goal shot that led her to another opportunity to secure a goal at the 82nd minute tieing up the match. In the final minutes, both teams fought for the capitalizing goal but on the Celts end, Soich stood strong in net recording multiple saves to secure a 1-1 tie result.

With the Celts' showcasing another well-fought conference point resulting in two consecutive ties, UST continues to display their consistency and team strength as they remain unbeaten in conference play. The Celts look to carry this drive into their next match-up as they aim to turn draws into wins, and earn another victory before returning home from a long weekend.
